Crocs could eat my constituents: Qld MP

A Queensland politician is calling on the state government to protect his constituents from being eaten by crocodiles.

Rockhampton MP Bill Byrne believes saltwater crocodile sightings are on the rise in his electorate.

He supports conservation efforts for the reptiles but says any policy must be balanced with the government's duty to protect people.

"I know nobody that will be suggesting there will be an absolute guarantee," he's told parliament.

"But I do think that it's the government's responsibility not only to ensure the survival of the species but also the survival of constituents."
