AUTHORITIES NEAR MINNEAPOLIS SAY A 10-YEAR-OLD CHILD IS DEAD AND A GUNMAN HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER AN APPARENT RANDOM SHOOTING THAT ALSO WOUNDED TWO OTHER PEOPLE, INCLUDING THE CHILD'S MOTHER.

THE RANDOM SHOOTING TOOK PLACE IN THE PARKING LOT OF THIS GROCERY STORE ABOUT 20 MILES EAST OF MINNEAPOLIS.

POLICE HAVEN'T SAID IF THE CHILD WAS A BOY OR GIRL -- BUT THEY SAY THE GUNMAN FIRED AT A CAR CARRYING THE TEN YEAR OLD AS WELL AS THE CHILD'S MOTHER.

THEY SAY THE MOTHER WAS WOUNDED IN THE ARM -- AND SAY A WOMAN IN ANOTHER CAR WAS ALSO HIT -- SUFFERING A HAND WOUND.

LATE MONDAY, POLICE SAID A 33-YEAR OLD MAN IS IN CUSTODY -- AND THE ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS REPORTS THE SUSPECT LIVES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

AUTHORITIES BELIEVE THERE ARE NO OTHER SUSPECTS -- AND THERE IS NO LONGER ANY DANGER TO THE PUBLIC.
