The Australian Federal Police has almost wrapped up a second round of inquiries into who leaked a damaging video showing former prime minister Kevin Rudd swearing and thumping a table.

The AFP last year said it had been unable to determine who uploaded the footage to YouTube in February 2012.

But last month it emerged Mr Rudd had written to AFP Commissioner Tony Negus, asking him to pursue some new lines of inquiry.

Mr Negus says the AFP is currently finalising those fresh inquiries.

"We haven't reopened the investigation. We're clarifying a few issues around the edges of it," Mr Negus told reporters in Canberra on Tuesday.

Mr Negus said he would write to Mr Rudd later this month to tell him the results.

The video, showing an irate Mr Rudd mouthing off at an interpreter, helped reignite Labor leadership tensions shortly before he quit as foreign minister and challenged Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
