4. SOUNDBITE:

"Our special ops teams have swept the perimeters, swept every floor -- all 12 floors of that courthouse -- the remaining civilians and courthouse workers have been escorted from that facility. So that facility is empty at this time except the investigators who continue to process the evidence at the crime scene. The identification of the victims, we keep getting questions on the identification of the victims and the suspect. They'll be released pending the positive identification made by the medical examiner's office and proper notification to the next of kin. So we don't have a time on that yet, but we will release that when it's available."

"First and foremost, our hearts and prayers go out to the victims in the shootings here in the city of wilmington at our courthouse this morning. There are 3 points i'd like to make. Number one, this was not - and the sergeant spoke to this earlier today - this was a not a random act of violence. Preliminary, this was the result of a custody dispute that has lasted in our court system for several years. It's an ongoing investigation. As we speak, there are investigators around the state investigating this would happen. So I hope you can bare with us as we do our job.

STORYLINE:

Three people are dead after a shooting Monday morning at the New Castle Courthouse in Wilmington, Delaware.

Delaware State Police Sgt. Paul Shavack said the suspected gunmen and two women are dead.

During a press conference Monday afternoon, Shavack told reporters "we keep getting questions on the identification of the victims and the suspect. They'll be released pending the positive identification made by the medical examiner's office and proper notification to the next of kin. So we don't have a time on that yet, but we will release that when it's available."

Earlier in the day, the city's mayor said one of the women was the shooter's estranged wife.

Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden said is wasn't a random act of violence.

Biden told reporters, "preliminary, this was the result of a custody dispute that has lasted in our court system for several years. It's an ongoing investigation."

Two police officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident.

Shavack said officers exchanged gunfire with the shooter in the courthouse's lobby before he passed metal detectors.

Shavack did not say whether the shooter killed the two women or whether they were killed in the gunfire. Shavack also did not say how the shooter died.
