Plans for a bigger boat festival

Organisers of Hobart's Wooden Boat Festival may try to expand the event over the River Derwent to make room for more boats.

This year the festival attracted 550 boats and close to 200,000 visitors, 40,000 more than two years ago.

The Festival's Director Paul Cullen says some boats had to be knocked back because there was not enough room on Hobart's waterfront, but Bellerive was a possibility.

"Bellerive as you know does quite a pleasant little festival over there themselves, we'd like to get involved with them and perhaps get them into the fold and see if we can expand this festival even further," he said.
