WA teams not believed focus of doping inquiry

The director general of Western Australia's sport and recreation department says he does not believe WA teams are a focus of the national doping inquiry.

Leaders from WA's major sporting codes met police and government representatives today to discuss the Australian Crime Commission's report into drug use.

Ron Alexander says while it would be naive to think it was not possible, he does not believe WA teams are a focus of the ACC report.

"I think we have to be conservative," he said.

"We'll wait to see what comes out but there are no indications that Western Australia is a particular focus."

Mr Alexander says, however, WA sporting groups need to remain alert.

"That's exactly what the sports are doing," he said.

"They are going back to have a look at their agencies, they're going back to check on staff, all of those sorts of things, to see are there any gaps."

Mr Alexander will attend a briefing with federal and state sports ministers on Thursday to discuss the report.
