A bushfire advice has been issued for people in north-east Byford in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services was alerted to a blaze near Abernethy Road and George Street about 1.30 pm.

There is no threat to lives or property at this stage but residents are being urged to stay alert and monitor their surroundings.

Road closures are expected to be in place shortly.

Fire crews are on the ground and aerial bombers are also assisting.

DFES says the blaze is contained but not controlled and there is a lot of smoke in the area.
