Print PageHe's not exactly a knight in shining armour, but Queensland's health minister says a prince of sorts is coming to the rescue of the state's hospitals.
Lawrence Springborg says an auction of assets formerly owned by a so-called fake Tahitian prince and alleged Queensland Health fraudster will fund health care in the state.
Hohepa Morehu-Barlow was arrested in 2011 for allegedly defrauding millions from the health department when he worked there.
Exotic art, consumables and other treasurers, including reportedly the biggest collection of Louis Vuitton accessories in the Southern Hemisphere, will go under the hammer next month.
Mr Springborg says all Queenslanders can help provide better health services at their local hospitals by bidding at the sale on March 10 in Woolloongabba.
"People at the auction can join in and help us turn things around," he said in a statement.
"The return of these funds will go a long way in the provision of essential frontline services."
The proceeds will go towards breast screening programs, Queensland Quitline, distributing human papilloma virus vaccine to boys and chronic disease prevention and care.
