LAS VEGAS, Nevada (AP) — Heavyweights New Zealand and Fiji will meet in the semifinals of the USA Sevens rugby tournament as southern hemisphere teams dominated Saturday's second day of the three-day event.

New Zealand beat Canada 17-0 while Fiji edged the host United States 21-19.

Sunday's other semifinal will be between South Africa — which breezed past Wales 26-0 — and Samoa, which defeated Scotland 12-5.

New Zealand and Fiji were both unbeaten in their pools but Fiji's wins were all narrow and hard-fought. The former world champions Fiji beat Scotland 14-12, England 26-17 and Portugal 21-14 before edging the U.S.

Series leaders New Zealand was more emphatic, beating Wales 40-5, France 21-0 and Argentina 17-5.

Samoa and South Africa were also unbeaten in pool play; South Africa beat Canada, Kenya and Uruguay while Samoa beat the United States, 12-7, Spain and Australia

England and Kenya — finalists in the previous round of the competition in New Zealand — were relegated to the second-tier Bowl competition after poor results in Friday's pool play.

England was beaten 21-5 by lowly Portugal, 26-17 by Fiji and 14-0 by Scotland to finish the pool stages of the Las Vegas tournament without a win. England achieved a small consolation when it beat Australia 26-21 in the Bowl competition.

Kenya, which upset New Zealand to reach the final in Wellington, posted only one win in the pool rounds, beating Uruguay before losing to Canada and South Africa.
