24-year-old Salaka Djicke reflects on the horror she endured during 10 months of Islamist rule in her hometown of Timbuktu, Mali, Wednesday Feb. 6, 2013. Salaka and her boyfriend continued seeing each other in secret, even after Shariah rule was imposed, risking death for a chance to love. A quick-thinking officer has saved himself and his police dog companion from being run over in north Queensland.
The incident occurred when the two officers, man and canine, were running down Hudson St, Townsville, about 11pm (AEST) on Saturday.
As they approached the intersection of another street, a stolen four-wheel drive turned into Hudson St and began to speed up.
The 4WD was driving on the wrong side of the road and when it got close to the officers the driver suddenly swerved towards them.
The police officer jumped out of the way just in time, managing to pull his dog with him.
Both officers were unhurt and the 4WD sped off.
Police are currently searching for the vehicle which was stolen on Friday night.
It is a beige 2006 Toyota RAV4 bearing the Queensland registration 181JVB.
