Two police officers have been injured while arresting a man in Sydney's CBD.

The officers had gone to investigate a loud argument between a 29-year-old Italian national and a woman outside Town Hall police station about 1am (AEDT) on Sunday.

The Italian allegedly punched the male officer in the face and a female officer suffered bruising to her face and arms during the arrest.

The male officer was taken to hospital with a sprained neck and facial bruising.

A 29-year-old man was charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest and using offensive language in a public place.

He was refused bail and was expected to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
