Career public servant Drew Clarke will become the next secretary of the Department of Broadband, Communication and the Digital Economy.
He replaces Peter Harris, who is going on to chair the Productivity Commission from March, the federal government announced on Friday.
Mr Clarke has been secretary of the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism since 2010 and has held similar positions in other government departments and agencies.
