A woman has died just south of Coffs Harbour on the NSW north coast after her car collided with an oil tanker.

The collision occurred on the Pacific Highway at Nambucca Heads, between Link Road and Riverside Drive.

Police say the woman died at the scene and the tanker driver was not injured, but has been taken to hospital for mandatory tests.

The road is expected to be closed for a number of hours, with traffic being diverted around the accident site.
