An elderly man is in hospital after being tied-up and bashed by gun thieves in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.
The man's wife came home around 8:00pm last night to find the 77-year-old tied up in their garage at Wentworth Falls.
The man was doing work in the garage of his Maple Grove home when he was bashed by intruders two hours earlier.
He was taken to Nepean hospital with head injuries.
Detectives believe he was hit over the head with glass bottles that were found smashed on the ground, before the intruders made off with a number of registered guns.
A crime scene was established, and police in the Blue Mountains are appealing for anyone who may know more about the attack and robbery to contact them.
Police are also hoping to speak to the man so that they can get a description of the intruders.
The attack came hours after New South Wales Police announced Operation Apollo, which is aimed at reducing the number of shootings across Sydney.
It also came just a day after the death of another elderly Sydney man who was injured in a struggle with an intruder.
