STORYLINE:

Worshippers in Midland City, Alabama gathered at the Midway Assembly of God to celebrate the 6th birthday of a little boy who was kidnapped by a gunman who killed a bus driver last week, and held the boy hostage in a bunker until authorities rescued the boy on Tuesday. During the rescue, they killed Jimmy Lee Dykes, with whom they had been negotiating for days after the boy was taken from the bus.

Rev. Michael Senn, who led the worshippers in prayer said, "we want to report tonight that he is back with his momma....at this time, she's probably holding him real tight...giving him a bunch of kisses....because he placed his life on the line for those precious children."

The boy appeared to be doing well at a hospital in nearby Dothan, acting like a normal kid. He was running around, playing with a toy dinosaur and other action figures, eating a turkey sandwich and watching "SpongeBob SquarePants," relatives and Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson said.
