SCHLADMING, Austria (AP) — Olympic silver medalist Kjetil Jansrud of Norway has been ruled out for up to nine months after tearing cruciate ligaments in his left knee in Wednesday's super-G race at the Alpine skiing world championships.

Team doctor Lars-Petter Granan said Jansrud will travel back to Norway for further tests before undergoing surgery.

"The rehab will take nine months, maybe a bit shorter," Granan said. "He will then be back at 100 percent."

Jansrud caught a bump and lost balance in a left turn before sliding off course. Initially, he appeared unhurt as he clipped on his ski again and skied down to the finish area.

Jansrud, who placed second in giant slalom at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, is eighth in the overall World Cup standings and was regarded as a medal contender in downhill and super-combined.
