1. SOUNDBITE (English) Tom Hooper, director - on his favorite films of 2012:

"I really loved the Woody Allen film 'To Rome with Love' which hasn't had any nominations at all. But, you know, I think Woody Allen remains an extraordinary story teller and that whole theme of the singer who's only good in the shower, therefore whole operas are created where the shower is wheeled on where he can still sing well because he's in the shower even on an opera stage. I mean it's genius. The way he also just keeps working, keeps working - that's a great model for me. I'd love to be at his age and still making a film a year. My God, how amazing."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Tom Hooper, director - on his favorite films of 2012:

"I saw 'Life of Pi' recently and I thought that was an extraordinary directorial and technical accomplishment. The way Ang uses 3D, it feels like you're seeing the medium for the first time. So it's great. In a way the discipline of having to watch all these films, which you kind of run out of time to do, but the great thing about it is you take a beat to learn about filmmaking to see what other directors are doing - that's a great way of thinking about the art form once a year in a concentrated way."
