Victoria's child safety commissioner, Bernie Geary, will head a new body to replace the current commission for child protection.
The State Government says the Commission for Children and Young People will operate independently of Government and have wide-ranging powers of investigation.
The new body was a key recommendation from the inquiry into protecting Victoria's vulnerable children.
