PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The cost of a gallon of gas in Maine has jumped nearly 14 cents in just the past week.

Price-monitoring website MaineGasPrices.com reports Monday that the average retail cost of gas has risen to $3.70 a gallon, based on a survey of more than 1,200 gas stations in the state.

The price is 16 cents a gallon higher than a month ago and 11 cents higher than a year ago.

GasBuddy.com, which operates MaineGasPrices.com and more than 250 similar price-tracking websites, says prices nationwide have risen more than 14 cents a gallon in the past week, to $3.48.

A company analyst says rising oil prices have put upward pressure on gasoline prices, with little relief in sight for the time being.
