Stabbing puts school in lockdown
A school in south-eastern New South Wales was in lockdown this afternoon after the stabbing of a 16-year-old student.
Police were called to Karabar High School in Queanbeyan just before 1pm where police say a 15-year-old boy pulled out a knife during a fight on the school grounds and stabbed a boy in the abdomen and thigh.
The 16-year-old has been taken to the Canberra Hospital and is in a stable condition.
The 15-year-old was taken into custody and is assisting police with their inquiries.
Inspector Chris Varley from Queanbeyan Police said the knife had been confiscated.
"It's a bit of a fright to think one week into the school year that we've had an incident like this occur, certainly it's a bit of a shock to everybody," Inspector Varley said.
The school is offering counselling to students.
