Repair crews are working around the clock to restore natural gas supplies to flood-ravaged south Queensland.
A damaged section of pipeline running under the Burnett River near Bundaberg can't be repaired.
A new section of steel pipe about 500 metres long, is being constructed beneath the river.
Pipeline owner Envestra Ltd says work is running to schedule and it won't be long before supplies to the Wide Bay region are back to normal.
"If no material problems are encountered with this work, we are hopeful of a resumption of normal gas supplies to most customers commencing Thursday next week, the 14th of February," managing director Ian Little said in a statement.
Bundaberg Regional Council says gas will be supplied to a number of critical sites including hospitals and nursing homes from midday on Wednesday, by injecting liquefied natural gas into the network.
