A woman has been charged with the shooting murder of a man at an Adelaide car wash on the weekend.

The 35-year-old is charged with murdering 39-year-old Adrian Paul MacDonald from Hope Valley on February 3, police said on Tuesday.

He was shot at about 6.40am (CDT) at the back of the Big Bucket Car Wash at Parafield.

The woman was arrested late on Monday at an Elizabeth Park home.

The woman and the victim were known to each other, police said.

They are calling for public help from anyone who saw a 2003 silver Ford Futura sedan in the Parafield area or neighbouring suburbs on Sunday morning.

The car has been seized by police and is being currently being forensically examined.

The woman is expected to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court later on Tuesday.

Detective-Inspector Mark Trenwith told reporters the seized car was owned by the arrested woman's family and was at the carwash at the time of the murder.

"The post-mortem yesterday confirmed the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds," he said, adding that the weapon had not been recovered.

"We do not believe the murder is related to drugs or any other illicit (activity)."

He said police are continuing to view CCTV footage from the area.

"We believe that will form an important part of our case in regard to the arrest of this woman," Insp Trenwith said.

Police could not rule out the possibility of further arrests.
