The tiny school at Yunta in the north-east of South Australia has no plan to close despite having only two students.

It had been expected the school year would start with three students until one family left the town.

The Education Department said there was no prospect of more enrolments.

Far north regional director Paul Newman said it was the smallest school in his region and had a teacher for each student.

"The parents have made a choice that, in terms of their best interests and the interests of the children, that they want the children obviously close," he said.

"That they don't think having junior primary children in a boarding facility is suitable. So in terms of parent choice I think that they've made one that's in the best interests of their children."
