The committal hearing for the man accused of the abduction and murder of Queensland schoolboy Daniel Morcombe has resumed in the Brisbane Magistrates Court.

Daniel, 13, disappeared from the Sunshine Coast in 2003. His remains were found last year.

Brett Peter Cowan, 42, appeared in court today for the second part to his committal hearing.

He is charged with murder, child stealing, deprivation of liberty, indecent treatment of a child and interfering with a corpse.

Sandra Drummond, a former friend of the accused, gave evidence today.

She told the court she had known Cowan for about two years and occasionally smoked cannabis with him.

Ms Drummond said there was a possibility that Cowan was with her at her Beerwah home the day Daniel was abducted, but she could not recall the exact details of the day.

Another eight witnesses are giving evidence this week, with six to be heard in a closed-court session.
