Lawyers for two Fairfax journalists have mounted a fresh appeal in a bid to prevent the pair from having to reveal their source in a banknote bribery case.

The legal team for Richard Baker and Nick McKenzie this morning told the Victorian County Court the matter was now before the Court of Appeal.

The appeal relates to a story published on December 8 which alleged an Indonesian businessman had made a deal to testify against executives of a Reserve Bank of Australia subsidiary.

A group of union members and journalists gathered outside the court this morning to show support for the two journalists.
