A man who allegedly drove a ute through crowds of shoppers along Rundle Mall has been charged with acts to endanger life.

Police say the ute had been involved in a hit-and-run collision on Magill Road at Norwood about 2:45pm (ACDT) on Sunday.

Minutes later, the vehicle entered the mall, forcing pedestrians to run out of the way.

Police say a 41-year-old Redwood Park man was driving the vehicle with two children inside before he eventually stopped at Gawler Place.

The man was arrested and was also charged with driving without due care, driving in a manner dangerous and failing to exchange details at the scene of an accident.
