The chief executive of the Gladstone Ports Corporation says he will welcome an independent review of its water monitoring processes.

Last week, the Federal Government formalised its response to the damning UNESCO report on the World Heritage status of the Great Barrier Reef.

The report recommends a review of the management of the Gladstone Harbour, in central Queensland, where a massive dredging project is underway for the liquefied natural gas industry.

Gladstone Ports Corporation chief executive Leo Zussino says the dredging developments are within environmental guidelines.

"We welcome a team of people coming along, reviewing the way we're undertaking the monitoring [and] scientifically analysing that," he said.

"You need to appreciate that the monitoring that we're undertaking and the way we're doing it was set up under the requirements of our environmental impact statements to the Federal and State governments."
