A source close to the former Victorian Premier Steve Bracks says he has no intention of returning to politics.
The former Victorian premier resigned in 2007 in order to spend more time with his family.
Mr Bracks is holidaying in Tasmania but he has now made it clear he will not be running for the seat.
It had been reported Mr Bracks would be a popular candidate for the seat and the idea was endorsed by the state secretary of the Victorian ALP, Noah Campbell and the new Attorney-General, Mark Dreyfus.
Mr Dreyfus says he is expecting a big field of candidates for the seat.
