Students at the Dunalley Primary School which was destroyed in this month's fires will start the school year late after a delay with replacement classrooms.

The school was expected to open next week but classes will now start on February 13 because of safety concerns.

In the meantime, students will have excursions and teachers will attend study days.

Education Minister Nick McKim has commended the recovery efforts.

"I'm truly amazed," he said.

"It's a minor miracle that we'll have a temporary school up and running within a month of starting construction work and it's a testament to the amazing work that everyone down on the site, within the department and within the local community has done."
