A GUNMAN IS AT LARGE AFTER OPENING FIRE AT A PHOENIX OFFICE BUILDING--WOUNDING THREE PEOPLE AT LEAST ONE OF THEM CRITICALLY... AUTHORITIES BELIEVE THERE WAS ONLY ONE SHOOTER AND DON'T THINK IT WAS A RANDOM ACT.
(Sgt. Tommy Thompson, Phoenix Police Dept.:)
"We believe that the individual came here, got into some type of an altercation with these people.
WORKERS IN THE BUILDING SAY THEY TRIED TO LEAVE AS SOON AS THEY HEARD GUNSHOTS.
(SOUNDBITE: Don Jaksa, works in building:)
"the police told us to get back and lock ourselves down and they'll come and get us. So we went back in and then 15 minutes later they came and pounded on our door and said, 'OK, get out. You're evacuated. You can't get your cars. You're done for the day.'"
THE BUILDING HAS EVACUATED AND SEARCHED... LOCAL MEDIA REPORT SCHOOLS IN THE AREA WERE PLACED ON LOCKDOWN--AS POLICE SEARCH FOR THE SUSPECT OR ANY ADDITIONAL VICTIMS.
POLICE SAY THEY WERE GIVEN CONFLICTING INFORMATION ABOUT THE SUSPECT LEAVING THE SCENE.
A SWAT TEAM SURROUNDED A HOUSE ABOUT 7 MILES FROM THE SHOOTING SCENE... POLICE SAY THE HOME IS CONNECTED TO THE SHOOTING--BUT WOULD NOT ELABORATE... POLICE HAVE NOT RELEASED THE NAME OF THE POSSIBLE SUSPECT OR A MOTIVE FOR THE SHOOTING
