The cruise ship Costa Concordia, leaning on its side, is seen just off the coast of the Tuscan island of Giglio, Italy, Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013. As if the nightmares, flashbacks and anxiety weren't enough, passengers who survived the terrifying grounding and capsizing of the Costa Concordia off Tuscany have come in for a rude shock as they mark the first anniversary of the disaster on Sunday. Ship owner Costa Crociere SpA, the Italian unit of Miami-based Carnival Corp., sent several passengers a letter telling them they weren't welcome at the official anniversary ceremonies on the island of Giglio where the hulking ship still rests. Costa says the day is focused on the families of the 32 people who died Jan. 13, 2012, not the 4,200 passengers and crew who survived. (AP Photo/Paolo Santalucia)

Minister taken to task over contractor fire
The State Opposition says the Environment Minister must be held accountable for a bushfire started by a contract worker.
Last week's fire, south-west of Harvey, threatened lives and homes.
Preliminary investigations have found a contractor accidently started the fire with the exhaust of his quad bike while spraying weeds in the area.
It has also been revealed the usual procedure, of having a fire truck on standby while the work was done, was not followed.
Labor's Margaret Quirk says the outcome could have been much worse.
"We are very fortunate that neither property nor lives were lost but, of course, much of the bushland which in fact is DEC's responsibility to preserve is lost so they can't walk away feeling that they've got out of it scot-free," she said.
"My view is that if contractors are working for government agencies like DEC, like Forest Products Commission, they need to work to high standards under those contracts, and those standards need to be enforced by the departments."
In a statement, the minister Bill Marmion says he was extremely disappointed to hear that a fire truck was not on stand-by.
He says he has asked the department's Director General for a full report on the incident.
