Print PageA crocodile that took a nine-year-old boy at a remote Northern Territory community near Nhulunbuy has been caught and killed.
The boy was attacked near the community of Dhanyia while swimming at Port Bradshaw, about 1,000 kilometres east of Darwin, with other children on December 1 last year.
Police say family members tried to spear the crocodile but the boy was dragged into deeper water.
Water police and rangers searched the area for several days, and shot at a crocodile but it disappeared.
The official search was suspended mid-last month but traditional owners continued to look for the saltie, which was well known to the community.
It was caught and killed on Saturday afternoon.
No human remains were found inside the crocodile.
It has been buried in ceremonial grounds near the community.
