Crews fight blaze threatening Carnarvon plantations

Published: 07:56:54 AM, Mon 28 January 2013 UTC

Fire crews are battling an unpredictable blaze burning out of control in the north-eastern part of Carnarvon.

The fire is posing a direct threat to plantations along North River Road, and could also threaten homes and lives if wind conditions change.

The blaze started just after 09:30 am and is burning slowly along Miaboolya Road.

It is proving difficult to control as burning embers are blown about, causing spot fires in different locations.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services is urging people along Miaboolya Road, Bibbawarra Road and North River Road to either leave their homes, or get ready to defend them.

A watch and act is in place for residents.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
