NEW DELHI (AP) — This year's Asian Athletics Championship will be held in Chennai from July 3-7.
The Asian Athletics Association secretary Maurice Nicholas told the Press Trust of India that the decision was taken after an executive council meeting in the satellite city of Gurgaon on Saturday which was chaired by its controversial chief Suresh Kalmadi.
Kalmadi, who spent nine months in jail last year because of graft allegations related to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, has been the AAA chief since 2000.
Kalmadi also headed the Indian Olympic Association for 16 years but decided not to seek re-election in recent polls declared "null and void" by the International Olympic Committee.
The new IOA body led by Abhay Singh Chautala and backed by Kalmadi, has been suspended pending fresh elections.
