Online advice for NSW parents

Published: 05:21:13 AM, Mon 21 January 2013 UTC

NSW parents can go online to have all their questions answered as they prepare their children to return to classes this week.

More than 745,000 students from 2223 schools across the state go back to school from Wednesday.

"This can be an anxious time, particularly for parents sending their children to school for the first time or who have children starting high school," NSW Education Minister Adrian Piccoli said.

On Monday he launched the new Back to School website focusing on students starting pre-school and primary school and those making the jump from primary to high school.

"I encourage any parents with questions to visit the website," Mr Piccoli said.

It provides advice on cyber bullying, assisting children with homework, lunch ideas and even cost-saving ways to prepare lunch for children.

The website also includes information about uniforms, fees and government school term dates.

Another key feature is that it updates and provides links to interact on Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media.

Mum of two, Kerrie Anderson, said it made life easier for parents.

"It's very easy to look up and find what you actually need," she told reporters at the launch in Sydney.

"It has good ideas about what to give them to eat. It will help (parents) a great deal."
