MP says hospital boards used as scapegoats
Sunshine Coast Independent MP Peter Wellington says the health boards are nothing more than the puppets of the Queensland Government.
Mr Wellington says the boards have been established to act as scapegoats for the State Government's hospital and health cuts.
He says Queensland Health Minister Lawrence Springborg and Premier Campbell Newman should take responsibility for the job and budget cuts instead of the boards.
"There's not enough money provided to the hospitals to operate their services and it's simply a buffer," he said.
"I'm saying these hospital boards were elected to represent the community to fight for the community, not simply be a mouthpiece for the government.
"It's simply a political ploy so the government can distance itself from the hard decisions the hospital boards have had to make."
