ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is the new technical director of the United Arab Emirates club Al Nasr, after rejecting an offer to join German second-division club 1860 Munich.
Al Nasr spokesman Mohammed Mubarak told The Associated Press Sunday that Eriksson had accepted the post, though he had no details about the contract.
Eriksson's long career includes a five-year stint as England manager. The 64-year-old Swede has also managed, among others, Fiorentina, Roma, Lazio, Benfica, Manchester City, Mexico and Ivory Coast.
Eriksson will be unveiled Monday, when details of his new role will be provided. Coached by former Italian goalkeeper Walter Zenga, Al Nasr is fifth in the domestic league after finishing second last year. It is also involved in a qualification campaign for the Asian Champions League.
