Department of Immigration officials have stopped a 24-year-old accused conman from entering the country at Perth airport.

Jerry Connors allegedly breached Australian consumer law and the New South Wales Home Building Act while working in Sydney in 2011.

He fled Australia in April last year.

New South Wales Fair Trading says Mr Connors was taken into custody in Perth this morning and served with 18 court attendance notices.

Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe alleged Mr Connors is involved in a gang of Irish travellers who have been on the radar of the national travelling conmen taskforce for some years.

He said until the commencement of the national campaign and coordinated efforts with police and federal authorities, travelling conmen crossed national and interstate borders with impunity.
