Twitter says it is in talks with the Federal Government over Prime Minister Julia Gillard's drive to crack down on cyber-bullying.

Yesterday Ms Gillard announced a deal with Facebook, Microsoft, Yahoo! and Google - which owns YouTube - on guidelines for what is acceptable online behaviour.

The agreement introduces protocols for how to deal with problems and, importantly for law enforcement agencies, also requires a single point of contact for the Government to deal with each company.

Twitter was the only major social media company not included in the announcement yesterday, but this morning Twitter's head of global policy tweeted that the company was talking with Ms Gillard's team about the proposal.

"Thanks, we're talking w/your team & our policies re abusive behavior are available to all he wrote.

Ms Gillard has said that Twitter is where much of the anti-social comments are posted, and she wants it to sign on too.
