Police divers will search the Gold Coast river for a missing man last seen jumping off a bridge.

A witness told police a man, whose identity remains unknown, failed to surface after leaping off the Chevron Island bridge and into the Nerang River at Surfers Paradise on Wednesday night.

He is described as being caucasian with a solid build.

Police divers will join Water Police in searching for the man on Thursday morning after a search overnight failed to find him.
