WENGEN, Switzerland (AP) — Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway was fastest in the shortened first training run ahead of Saturday's classic World Cup downhill on the Lauberhorn course.

Svindal, who leads the downhill standings, timed 1 minute, 50.92 seconds Tuesday on a 3.08-kilometer (1.91-mile) run which started lower down the mountain to ensure all racers completed their runs before forecast weather changes.

Werner Heel of Italy was second 0.05 seconds behind but he missed a gate. Kjetil Jansrud of Norway was third, trailing by 0.36.

The full Lauberhorn course of 4.42 kilometers (2.75 miles) is the season's longest, and includes the fastest and slowest sections that downhill racers see all year.

Svindal was clocked at 149.8 kph (93 mph) on the straight Hanneggschuss section.

Racing begins Friday with a super-combined event.
