There has been an outcry on social media in Indonesia after a supreme court justice candidate joked about rape victims.

While being interviewed by politicians for the position of supreme court judge, Mohammad Daming Sanusi was asked if the death penalty should be given for rape.

Mr Daming said it should not be, because rape victims enjoy it just as much as the perpetrator.

He has since given a teary apology and says it was a joke, but pages on Twitter and Facebook have been covered in angry comments about how rape is no joke.

At least four political parties on the parliamentary commission interviewing Mr Daming for the position say they will not support his appointment.

The government newswire, Antara, says Indonesia's legal aid service also demanded he not get the job.
