A drink-driver has crashed through a series of shops in Melbourne's north, police say.

A man was driving north on Sydney Road, Brunswick, about 4am (AEDT) on Tuesday, when he veered onto the footpath, before smashing through three shopfronts, police said.

The car damaged a bridal boutique, a cake shop and hairdresser before colliding with a pole.

The 24-year-old Coburg man, who was uninjured in the crash, returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.154 - more than three times over the legal limit.

Police said the man would likely be charged on summons with careless driving, speeding and drink-driving.

His 27-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.
