NJ Transit trains resume pre-Sandy levels into NYC

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Transit has reached a milestone as rail service into New York City returns to pre-Superstorm Sandy levels Monday.

Rail operations systemwide will reach 94 percent of its pre-Sandy service level with 658 of the 700 weekday trains scheduled prior to the storm operational.

Service levels on the North Jersey Coast Line will reach 96 percent with nine trains added. Two of the trains will be electric and operate between Long Branch and New York's Penn Station.

The remaining seven trains will either originate or terminate in Bay Head. Four of those trains will resume service between Bay Head and Hoboken.

Seven trains have been added to the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines.

Work continues to restore full service into Hoboken.
