The outcome was widely expected as Abete, who has been in charge since 2006, was the only candidate.
Abete says "it will be my last mandate. After this, I won't stand again, because I believe in generational change. Moreover, at the next assembly, I will ask for a limit to be imposed of two mandates for each president."
Abete received 94.34 percent of the 256 votes at the assembly in Rome.
