The Senator for the Northern Territory Trish Crossin says it is up to the Labor party to decide who it wants to support in this year's federal election.

Former Territory Labor politician Marion Scrymgour is challenging Senator Crossin for the top spot on the Senate ticket.

Senator Crossin says she has worked hard in the job and will not speculate on who the party will choose.

"I'm very excited about my job and work particularly hard and represent the Territory rigorously in Canberra," she said.

"But this is a matter for party members.

"It will be determined inside the party and I'm happy to talk to you once the outcome of the ballot is known."
