Northern Territory police have rescued a 12-year-old boy from crocodile-infested waters after he was trapped by a rising tide at the Elizabeth River, near Palmerston.

The boy had been fishing with friends when he became stranded on a power tower near the river mouth.

Two officers waded into the waste deep water and rescued the boy shortly after 7pm yesterday.

Watch Commander Debbie Gabolinscy says police had received reports of two crocodiles in the area on the same day.

"No-one was hurt but apparently there was a couple of crocodile sightings in the area early in the afternoon," she said.

"And certainly for the young lads, do a bit of planning and be aware of the tides."
